Birkenhead House
This architecturally designed spacious 3 bedroom home was constructed within tranquil bush surroundings in Birkenhead.
The house and deck were positioned to give maximum outdoor living and extra height glazing was incorporated to give a feeling of space and a connection to the environment.
The upstairs Master Bedroom was located to give views across the valley to the Chelsea Sugar Refinery.
The property had many physical challenges to overcome, as a bridging sewer with a Y junction was located directly under the ideal location for the house.
A watercourse became a feature of the property, with a bridge connecting the property access with the house. The area was also landscaped further enhancing this design element.
A practical house design, and the inclusion of the sewer bridge, enabled maximum use of the site, with the garage split from the main house structure.
Features:
- Complex site with tricky design limitations.
- House construction split over existing watercourse and flood plane.
- Existing drains on the site required a complex timber poled sub floor for the house and a combination of concrete slab with sewer bride beam and timber poll for the garage.
- A timber bridge linked the garage to the house.
