Glendowie House

The brief for this project was to design an innovative 4 bedroom home for the family to grow into.

The house was constructed on a subdivided property in Glendowie and a requirement was that the new house didn’t affect the existing house. The placement of the house on the site was also crucial to ensure maximum space for the backyard.

The building materials used in construction needed to suit the expanding family and so a traditional weatherboard home was constructed, also using stack bonded block, polished concrete, architectural steel and glass.

The entry gallery featured a 6m high stud and an architectural steel and timber stairway.

The high stud ceilings and large north facing glazing made the most of the light and also acted as passive solar heating in winter. The entry gallery included double glazing to reduce heat loss.

The upper level dining and lounge linked directly to the deck through large glass sliders giving an upper area with an indoor-outdoor flow designed to maximise the expansive views.

The upstairs hallway link bridged the high stud ceiling with the entry gallery below.

The result was a light and spacious home.
